Experimental music has a home in midtown – or at least it’s been invited crash there for a couple of months . . .

Iconoclastic noise, exploratory improvisation, hypnotic droning, and authentic "musique brut" have for decades been strong undercurrents affecting movement in Houston’s music (and art). They deeply impact what we hear and feel on the surface. But these scenes (or phenomena – underground music is often not coming from a ‘scene’) also produce many of Houston’s most well-known musical exports (unbeknownst to most Houstonians – even in the music and “cultural arts” communities).

“They, Who Sound” will offer two sets sampling a diverse range of underground music in Houston (with a potential for visiting artists as well) in the cozy environs of Backroom (the space behind The Mink). These shows are not to be missed. These events are early, there’s a bar and it’s on the train route!

Pioneers of European free improvisation, Han Bennink and Peter Brotzmann made a landmark statement together in 1968 with "Machine Gun", the incendiary recording by the Peter Brotzmann Octet. The two continued their groundbreaking collaboration in duo, trio, and quartet settings. After 12 years, the contrast between Brotzmann's severe intensity and Bennink's gleeful anarchy had run its course. In 1980, they went separate ways, playing the last concert of their fruitful 12-year collaboration.

In 2004, Brotzmann organized a series of performances to reunite the duo after a 24-year hiatus. Time added perspective to the work of both artists. Though he still turns up the high heat, Brotzmann now reveals a lyricism at heart of his fury. Bennink's physicality is still prominent; but he has shown himself to be an heir to the tradition of the great swing drummers like Baby Dodds, Jo Jones, and Max Roach.

An art student with connections to the Fluxes movement, Peter Brotzmann rejected a career in the galleries after hearing a concert by jazz legend Sidney Bechet. Self-taught on saxophones and clarinets, Brotzmann played modern jazz influenced by Ornette Coleman and worked with American greats like Don Cherry and Steve Lacy. He was crucial at the beginning of Europe's free improvisation movement. Brotzmann developed a style similar to radical American saxophonist Albert Ayler (without much knowledge of Ayler), an uncompromising, screaming cry that challenged itself to greater heights of rage and energy. Time added subtlety to his sound. Bluesy lyricism and timeless muezzin-like calls emerged in later years. He is one of the most influential saxophone players in free improvisation.

One of the hard swinging drummers in jazz and improvised music, Han Bennink has a reputation as an anarchic and electrifying performer. Well known for his physicality and sense of humor, Bennink's concerts lie somewhere in the realm of virtuosic percussion display and dadaist performance. He is famous for coaxing unusual sounds from his drums, augmenting his kit with found debris, and drumming on any surface available (walls, floors, chairs, his own body). In Holland in the 1960s, Bennink was quickly recognized as an uncommonly versatile drummer. He accompanied visiting jazz greats like Sonny Rollins, Eric Dolphy and Dexter Gordon. At the same time, Bennink helped to create a European improvised music that evolved an identity separate from its jazz roots. His collaborators in the worlds of free jazz and improvisation include most of the important artists in the music: Don Cherry, Misha Mengelberg, John Tchicai, Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, Steve Lacy, Eugene Chadbourne, and many others. Bennink has also performed with the punk rock band the Ex, with whom he has done two tours of Ethiopia.

Tetuzi Akiyama (Japan) - acoustic guitar
Jozef van Wissem (Holland) - renaissance lute

YOU KNOW YOU WANNA GO TO A FREE CONCERT WITH A RENAISSANCE LUTE!!!

When: Wednesday, January 30 , 2008 at 8 pm

Where: A site-specific performance at
The Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum
4011 Yupon at Branard, Houston, TX (map)

Tickets: The concert is free of charge

Nameless Sound and The Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum, in cooperation with The Menil Collection, presents:
Tetuzi Akiyama (Japan) - acoustic guitar
Jozef van Wissem (Holland) - renaissance lute

An artist of starkly contrasting styles, Tetuzi Akiyama gained international recognition as a member of Tokyo's "onkyo" scene of improvisers in the late 1990s. A groundbreaking and highly influential group, the onkyo musicians are known for zen-like subtlety, quietness and a remarkable use of silence. Akiyama's music can have these qualities, but his connections to blues and folk have always been clear. His acoustic performances are delicate, beautiful and expressive, often sounding like an intersection between country blues and traditional Japanese music.

Jozef van Wissem probably plays the most unlikely instrument in the world of contemporary improvised music: the Renaissance lute. He has accomplished the strange feat of bridging the idiom of seventeenth century lute literature and twenty-first century free improvisation. Van Wissem has largely stayed faithful to the particular timbre, resonance and playing technique of the lute. Van Wissem first came to be noticed a few years ago because of his conceptual approach to Renaissance lute music: he deconstructed existing compositions, for instance, by playing them backwards. He also composed his own pieces for lute, using palindromes and mirrored structures. His music therefore does not have a traditional linear progression, nor does it lead to a climax; rather, it stays at the same level of intensity. His music is quiet. It doesn't so much demand concentrated listening, but it brings the listener into a state of concentrated listening—an aspect that makes Van Wissem a natural partner to Akiyama's zen-like blues.

The Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum was opened in February 1997. Intimate in scale, the Chapel Museum is the repository in the United States for the only intact Byzantine frescoes in the entire western hemisphere. These masterworks from the 13th century—a dome and an apse—were stolen out of a chapel near Lysi in the Turkish occupied section of Cyprus in the 1980s, cut into pieces and smuggled off the island by thieves prepared to sell them piece by piece. The fresco fragments were rescued from the thieves by The Menil Foundation with the knowledge and approval of the Church of Cyprus, the rightful owner of the frescoes. The Menil Foundation then funded a painstaking two-year restoration of the paintings. Numerous private donors helped fund the construction of the Chapel Museum, which combines rough stone, opaque glass and rich woods to extraordinarily spiritual effect. The Church of Cyprus is allowing a long-term loan of the frescoes in the building designed especially for them by architect François de Menil.

Concert Announcement: Cooper-Moore Trio

Cooper-Moore Trio:
Cooper-Moore - piano, hand-crafted instruments
Forbes Graham - trumpet, electronics
Nioka Workman - cello

Saturday, January 19, 2008
8pm
Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex
2201 Preston, Houston TX

The work of Cooper-Moore is a testament to commitment, vision, spirit, compassion, and invention. Born and raised in the Piedmont Area of the Virginian Blue Ridge Mountains, Cooper-Moore played piano in churches as a child prodigy. In the early 1970's he moved to New York, and began his association with the fertile and revolutionary "loft scene" of underground jazz, collaborating with such musicians as David S. Ware, Marc Edwards, and William Parker. An accomplished composer and virtuosic piano player, Cooper-Moore quit public performance in 1981, depriving the creative music world of a unique and vital talent. He dedicated himself to youth, working intensively with a variety of communities. He has developed and implemented his own music curriculum; and has been sent around the country by Head Start to teach it to others. For the last 25 years, Cooper-Moore has assisted the disabled, the incarcerated, the at-risk, and the underserved; affecting them with his passion and understanding of personal and community progress through creative work.

In the early 90's, Cooper-Moore returned to public performance and was discovered by a new generation of fans. His unique talents were a revelation. He is a renaissance man, whose performances encompass honest and insightful storytelling, wide-ranging explorations on hand-made instruments, and intensely virtuosic piano playing. Cooper-Moore is the quintessential "unsung hero". He is an artist who understands the urgent need for unique voices. He delivers on his commitments, both in the community and on the stage.

Badschematic label launch - 4 free albums to download

Badschematic is a non-profit and commerce-free netlabel, distributing unusual and challenging audio works in MP3 format. All of our releases are free to download and share under a Creative Commons License. By operating without monetary concerns, it is Badschematic's goal to bring to your ears unique and unusual sounds that push and break through the boundaries of standard musical convention.

Badschematic is now officially up and running! Our first run of releases is as follows :

Swamps Up Nostrils - "Interdifference" = Originally recorded in 2005, this album finally sees the light of day with its release on Badschematic. Norwegian based artist Swamps Up Nostrils put together his unique blend of sounds, noises, and broken beats to construct eight original tracks for the long overdue release of Interdifference.

V/A - "Schematic Sounds Volume One" = The first installment in Badschematic's compilation series brings you nineteen different tracks by musicians and sound artists from across the globe. Featured on this compilation is a wide variety of strange and unusual sounds, from ambient drones to harsh noise-scapes.

Torstein Wjiik - "Moth Powder" = Moth Powder is a three track EP from Norwegian artist Torstein Wjiik, freely combining harsh bursts of noise, low rumbling drones, and strangely beautiful sound fragments. Moth Powder is also available on CDr from Ambolthue Records, a small indie label releasing experimental music in all variations.

Ligand - "Exogenous Conveyances" = Ligand's sound could be described, upon an initial listen, as "ambient", but that only tells part of the story. A producer of unconventional music that wanders freely between the soothing and the surreal, Ligand works within the context of ambient music but does not worry overmuch about staying within its confines.

The three musical artists featured in MungBeing 14 are way off the beaten path. Five songs are available for download.
MungBeing 14: The Future http://www.mungbeing.com/issue_14.html
Kathleen Yearwood

http://www.mungbeing.com/issue_14.html?page=42#822

"A distant ethereal feminine voice coaxed me into a vortex of haunting beauty. High witchy trills glided atop the precise yet gentle resonant flutter of plucked strings and quietly dispersed into the emptiness of space around us, falling nowhere. We drifted with her as peace gave way to a sadness and pain so profound. Jarred by the swirling punctuations of dissonant string-bending, she shattered my peace and sucked me back into it, over and over. Not even the frantic singing / of the nighttime whippoorwill / can bring back the useless sacrifice. Warbles, glossolalia, hand claps, the smashing of glass, the barks of hungry wolves yelping under a cold winter moon, danced in the frozen air around her piercing soprano and delicate, thrashing guitar. Kathleen Yearwood: the ordeal, the animus; a taproot deep into the blackest wells of the collective unconscious, a naked shaman spellcasting and dreamweaving as she quivers standing upon the snow clad only in a coyote mask. Her totem plant is belladonna, or perhaps the little man of the gallows: medieval and timeless, she brings us the ritual of the witching hour. Her music is the force of revelation, the kind of revelation we flee from in our nightmares."
The Rudy Schwartz Project

http://www.mungbeing.com/issue_14.html?page=43#1203

"I first found the music of Joe Newman in the dollar bin of my then-local used record store (now a Quizno's, I'm told). I was in luck, as what I'd found was Joe's seminal album, Gunther Packs a Stiffy, recorded under his usual nom de fume, The Rudy Schwartz Project. I was appalled and delighted as I listened to this Subgenius cynic lovingly (and viciously) skewer all that is most inane in this culture we call, for lack of a better adjective, American. I am delighted and proud to present to you two of The Rudy Schwartz Project's most consistently topical tunes, "Creation Science Polka" and "Jimmy Swaggart." If Richard Dawkins were a nightclub act, these just might be in his repertoire."

*

Daniel AIU Higgs

http://www.mungbeing.com/issue_14.html?page=44#1153

"The musical pieces created by Daniel Higgs (best known for his band Lungfish) on his newest release Atomic Yggdrasil Tarot [Thrill Jockey] are wonderfully droneful incantations that bob and weave across the floor like punchdrunk boxers. They dance a looping jig on the broken boards of the front porch. They recall to mind the experimental works of Henry Barnes in the mid 90s and explore the aural properties of the guitar with a zenlike zeal and glee."

WING show in SF? any help?

so, there are talks of trying to get WING to come perform in san francisco.

for those of you who aren't familiar with WING:
http://www.wingmusic.co.nz/

she's appeared on south park, and is known for her very interesting covers of ac/dc, the beatles, etc etc.

it would be a very unique show, i'm sure of it.

anyone have any ideas where in san francisco a WING show would go over well? do you think there are enough WING fans here for a small show? it's hard to tell.

Wouldn't it be incredible if all the people in this tribe all lived in the same
city?

I was marvelling today at the incredible creative connectivity that exists because of this
and other online communities.

You might now find a single other person in amongst your friends who love these kinds of
things (outsider art, experimental music, et. al.) but here we can discuss and turn each other
on to new ideas, techniques and artists at will

It's pretty amazing to me who lived his entire life (born in '53) without an internet connection until
a mere 7 years ago.

Glad to be here!

Pop singer with classical training looking for guitar or bass (or both) for free improv in a melodically oriented style. Zero interest in covers. Looking to jam, and if there's music when we're together, then we can keep working for a couple of weeks, make some session recordings, and produce something that's either marketable or at least likely to ignite some interest in the industry. I have a portable hard disk recorder, but we can't play in my apartment. Near San Francisco.

so, i know it's a couple of days too late, but just in case anyone is interested, i made a 50 minute continuous xmas mix this year to give to all my friends as a gift. i posted it online as well.

it has xmas-themed tracks from people like wesley willis, daniel johnston, tiny tim, wild man fischer, the ramones, little marcy, some nanoloop/gameboy xmas tracks, some old school hip hop xmas tracks, etc etc.

if you'd like to check it out, you can download the individual tracks here:

http://www.seanmcmahonart.com/bomarr/xmas/

or you can use the links in PCL linkdump's post about it here:

I saw this documentary 'Outside' on Channel 4 a couple of years ago, it was all about outsider music it featured Bingo Gazingo, BJ Snowden and Shooby Taylor among others. My memory of it is skectchy but there was one guy on said documentary called Alan I think. He sung a song that was called 'Save all your plans and schemes' and it was fucking brilliant he made a music video for the song too. But searching the web I can't find anything about him, if anyone has any information or ideas about where I could find more about him please let me know.
Cheers

Featured artists include Joe Meek, Billy Childish, Naomi Hall, R. Stevie Moore and more! Music downloads, interviews, criticism and some words from Irwin Chusid, the author of the first ever book on outsider music.

http://www.mungbeing.com

***

The second issue of MungBeing Magazine, the only "hot potato" magazine on the internet, has hit the cyberstands!
It is now even more delicious with 70+ tantalizing pages of writing, art and music! That's over TWICE the material than before!

This bi-month, MungBeing is focusing on Outsider Art and Stuckism, two movements that are really causing a stir. And with good cause, as is demonstrated by Stuckist founders Charles Thomson, Billy Childish, Ella Guru, and Joe Machine, and driven further home by a selection of VERY talented Stuckist painters from around the world.

Our Outsider insider overheard a conversation with Gus Fink so that story is presented here, too. There's also Outsider artwork from Kelly Moore, Liz Parkinson, Ian Pyper and artists SO outside they don't even WANNA come in. How Childish.

he written works of the talented MungBeing collective continues to
shine with thematic pieces from Kevin Ausmus, Michael O'Briant, Jeb
Ebben, Rik Albatros, Starchy, Robert Dayton, Mark Teppo... the list goes on. And the comics section glows with beautiful work from Julian Lawrence, mckenzee, Suzanne Baumann, and Harold Penis.

Musically, there's an excursion into the delightful world of Outsider
Music, a world that includes Joe Meek and R. Stevie Moore, with Comfort Stand Records (www.comfortstand.com) and your host Otis Fodder. There's also an EXCLUSIVE TRACK and a conversation with the incomparable Naomi Hall.

And there's a recipe for LGBT Casserole.

WOW! We're pulling from a WELL STOCKED BeingPool here!

Stuckism and Outsider Art. Two great tastes that fit together like
inverted handmaidens at a baby shower. Only twice as wet!

Don't forget to check out our forums where you can interact with
MungBeing readers and contributors. Everybody knows something else.

Definition of Outsider Music?

I kind of have a problem with the Outsider Music Mailing List's ( http://wlt4.home.mindspring.com/outsider.htm ) definition of "Outsider Music". Especially the part where it can't be deliberate. Then they list folks like Tiny Tim and Wesly Willis as outsider musicians, but those guys were obviously deliberate. Very weird and crazy, but still very deliberate.

According to Outsider Music Mailing List:
Outsider Music is NOT:

novelty recordings
merely bad music
avant-garde weirdness (unless it's really damn weird)
exotica/lounge music
outdated musical conventions (mainstream in the 1920s, campy now)
anything where the artist is conscious or aware of being "bad" or "kitschy"; it can't be deliberate

Outsider Music IS (or can be):

inept but sincere
celebrity vocals (aka "Golden Throats")
incredibly pretentious
the work of people with, er, problems
like eavesdropping
stuff that makes you go "What the heck?!"

Carrion Commandos

The Carrion Commandos existed in Eugene, Or. from 1983 until their ruinious crash in San Francisco in 1987(?). They were not a run of the mill hardcore punk band. They had percussion, a schizophrenic singer called V'Zar 23, two rotting faced synthesizor players, and a ziggy the witch bass player. To my knowledge they had one tape which I received a third generation copy of but listened to it until it disappeared into hiss and speaker fuzz. There was an interesting chemistry to this group and they would wear repulsive costumes that would fall apart into little pieces. Trendy Goth kids who saw them would run out of the room/basement/club horrified. their only fans had necrophiliac problems with their family and liked staring at things for hours until they passed out. No, the Carrion Commandos were not a band that wanted to be "in on the scene" or the types to "support the cause" unless that cause was putrefaction and the worship of sea monsters. Eugene, as I remember it was a drizzly, moldy, and claustrophobic place. I found it both beautiful (weird trails leading like webs out of lonely parks, bigfoot, deer, and the fog shrouded coast,...) and wretched (lack of work, dullish people, the huge ugly white neon cross--know gone). For the two and a half years that I was there---almost like a jail sentence---the Carrion Commandos supplied the murmuring soundtrack.

call for art and writing on outsider related themes

Hello from your friendly neighborhood community founder here. I am proud to announce that the first issue of MungBeing, an online magazine, has been published today. The second issue, which will be released on 01 June, will be exploring the themes of outsider art and music. If you have something to submit, contact me by 18 May at jody@mungbeing.com.

****

The premiere issue of MungBeing has hit the cybershelves! http://www.mungbeing.com

MungBeing is an online bimonthly magazine containing artwork, short stories, articles, essays, music, recipes, poetry, comics, and fun-filled interactive features. The brainchild of Mark Givens (Wckr Spgt) and jody franklin (July Fourth Toilet), the debut edition features an interview with enigmatic philosopher and cult figure Robert Anton Wilson. A variety of wonderfully talented essayists and poets explore subjects such as debauchery in Mexico, the Oval Office, ghosts, cantaloupe pie, and poems that won't be written. Our wordsmiths include John Darnielle (The Mountain Goats), Robert Dayton (Canned Hamm), R.S. Deese (The Fossil Record), a plethora of Salmon Bosch alum, and members of The Misfit Library. The magazine is illustrated with myriad original visual art works and comics by artists such as Jason McLean, Michael O'Briant, Julian Lawrence (Drippytown Comics) and others. And as an added bonus, the first issue of MungBeing includes an unreleased song from The Congress (featuring John Darnielle and Mark Givens).

MungBeing aims to be a narrower, more focused Outsider Salon, a Low Art New Yorker (A Lorker), Juxtapoz's bookish third cousin, the sly Cubists to Pop Surrealism's witty Futurists, a poor substitute for sleep, the natural progression/extension of Salmon Bosch into the digital domain, and an outlet for some restless ideas.

It exists to entertain, amuse, provoke, and evoke; it is meant to be contemplated, absorbed, savored and enjoyed. It is the cantaloupe pie of cyberzines, magalogs and weberags. Your friends will want a slice of the pie, too, so share it because there's enough to go around.

Questions and inquiries may be directed to inquiries@mungbeing.com

bon soir to my lovely fellow outsider musique appreciators! please allow moi to introduce myself, before i begin spamming you in earnest to come to my performances....(well, even outsiders have bills to pay, after all!)

with no formal music training, and using my own funds, i wrote and produced a theatrical production and cd, cabaret4choice as a benefit for planned parenthood, initially, but for any pro-reproductive freedom organization and individuals.

i guess it must mark me as an outsider that my chosen recipient, planned parenthood of santa barbara, actually rejected helping me to promote the show and cd, but only after they kept all the proceeds i helped them raise by performing the show...ah well, true art is never promulgated by committees comprised of mediocre individuals whose sole desire in life is not to make waves.

in any case, rejection in my own home town led me to move to smell-a and try to make my way in the music capital of the world. voila! after two years of trudging along, incremental progess is being made.

if you are interested in hearing the music i created and learning more about my current project, feel free to contact me or go directly to my sites.

oh, and if you choose reject me as well, so be it. i am used to following the beat of my own drum...(and btw, i actually did not have to pay anyone, nor administer any sexual favors to receive my LAMA award. i find it looks rather lovely, framed in gilt, in it's place of honor above the porcelaine throne...)

xox,

The Legendary Wild Man!

Hot off the presses: THE LEGEND OF WILD MAN FISCHER, by Dennis P. Eichhorn & J.R. Williams. Larry "Wild Man" Fischer is a real person; a paranoid-schizophrenic street singer (pre-dating--and surviving--the late Wesley Willis) who, in the '60s, appeared on Rowan & Martin's LAUGH-IN, & recorded a remarkable double album for Frank Zappa's "Bizarre" label. Larry's mother twice had him committed to mental institutions. Later, Wild Man recorded several albums for Rhino Records, & his songs were often featured on the Dr. Demento radio program. The new book collects stories about Fischer that originally appeared in Eichhorn's REAL STUFF comics, illustrated by Williams, and also features several articles/interviews documenting Wild Man's weird-yet-fascinating life & career, some never-before-published photographs, and more. THE LEGEND...is published by Top Shelf Comics: www.topshelfcomix.com

I'm trying to find the music made on a "theraman" Sp? You know the machine that makes the scary music for sci fi, named after its inventor. But I can't spell his name....

the Russians kidnapped him and put him in prison and he died there. I'm looking for the movie and links to the instrument.

Organ Failure played a really weird show tonight. People hung from large hooks pierced through their skin. One guy hung upside down from his knees while we played a tribal nonsense chanting thing, it was pretty intense, that one song/hanging lasted about 30 minutes. We are not into suspension or anything (none of us even have tatoos except for Olivia's little bunny rabbit), but it was still an interesting event.

Return of the 365 Days Project

--------------------------------------
The 365 Days Project
--------------------------------------

UbuWeb is pleased to announce the re-launch and permanent home of The 365
Days Project. This legendary project, in which an MP3 a day - of mostly
outsider, novelty, and oddball recordings - was made available for the
public to download over the course of 2003. Briefly taken offline, it is now
presented here in its entirety, complete with images and vast commentary on
each selection. The 365 Days Project is part of UbuWeb's redesigned,
newly-named and much-expanded Outsiders section.

The 365 Days Project can be accessed at:
http://ubu.com/outsiders/365/

Enjoy!

so I was going to make a happy song....well the results make me happy, but landed somewhere off the mark of the prozac bubble gum flavor i was going for. I have learned using the sound of a wooden plank dropping on a stone in the forest in not the appropriate foundation for such endeavors. <a href="http://www.scaza.com/sunk.mp3"> here is my work in progress </a> I've run out of ideas for now. Anyone else have some?

I hope it's okay to post a blatent self-promotion here. I think it might be of interest depending on your personal view of what counts as outsider music.

Over the past few years, I've been searching and collecting music from projects that offer people with severe disabilities the opportunity to write, play and experiment with music. I have enough that I'm actually going to try to fill out a three hour show (and that's after cutting a bunch of it out). I'd like to invite you to listen in on the odd, humorous and very human music and sounds by people with physical and cognitive disabilities.

Featured groups:
- The Kids of Widney High
- Special Music by Special People
- The How's Your News Band
- Dancing Tree's Music by the Children of Ala Costa
- NO REYNOLS

Too Cool For School: Special Ed Pullout Session
KFJC 89.7FM
June 1, 7PM to 10PM
Hosted by Cynthia Lombard and Scott Moore
http://www.kfjc.org/programming/mayhem_2004.php#Junehem_1

KFJC broadcasts from Foothill College in the Los Altos hills, and can be picked up at 89.7FM in most of the Bay Area or via the Internet at http://www.kfjc.org/netcast/index.php

If you get a chance to pick up the 2 DVD set of the Disinformation TV show that aired in England, you're in for a treat. One segment features an interview with Outsider Music guru Irwin Chusid, and it also has copious footage of the one and only BJ Snowden, doing her thing live in concert...AND the entire video for "In Canada"!!! If you haven't seen this video, all I can say is OH MY GOODNESS. She gives David Lynch a run for his money. Find it now!!!

hey, did anyone see this yet? how is it? i read some interview with the guys that did it an they seem good, in the right mindset and everything i think.

by the way i'm psyched this message board is around, i'm eager to get people's opinions on some things. is anyone on this on the outsider music mailing list too? i am currently attempting to engage in debate (via the mailing list) over some issues i have with the outsider music scene and would love to hear what others think. more on that later i guess . . .

I don't have cable anymore but I do know that I licensed the use of Daniel Johnston's song "Foxy Girl" (on Daniel's behalf; he owns his own publishing) for last night's episode of the new MTV show Wildboyz. Is attention/$ from MTV for Daniel a good thing, or is it evil? I can argue this either way.
